Spotlight on Business Administration Apprentice Paige

Paige Muir is a Business Administration Apprentice working within the Central Facilities Management (FM) Helpdesk team based in Livingston.

Back in November 2023, she took part in work experience at the branch and enjoyed it so much, that she applied to the apprenticeship scheme and joined the business in June last year. We chatted to her about her experience so far.

Why did you choose to begin an Apprenticeship with Mears?

I chose Mears because I felt really comfortable walking into the office on my first day of work experience. After completing the week, I knew that I would love to be part of the team. My apprenticeship means that I’m able to be part of a productive office environment and learn new things daily.

How has your apprenticeship been so far?

It has been very positive. I have been loving learning everything about the Bristol/ Portsmouth MOD FM Contract, and I know I will continue to enjoy coming into the office every day to complete the work. I have also enjoyed the qualification side of my apprenticeship as I have been creating documents all about what my  ‘day in the life’  looks like at Mears.

What does a typical day look like?

A typical day can mean answering any queries in the inbox and answering calls from tenants and engineers. I also get given time during the day to work towards my qualification. I allocate jobs to engineers on the Bristol/ Portsmouth MOD FM Contract each day to ensure old and new jobs are getting attended to and completed.

What are you looking forward to learning during the rest of your apprenticeship?

I am most looking forward to learning about admin and business on a higher level as this is something I enjoy. I also look forward to completing my tasks I get set each day to eventually gain my Business and Admin Level 6 qualification. I look forward to putting my knowledge and the skills I’ve learned from my apprenticeship into my everyday work life here.

Back in September, Paige received an award from her former High School. This was the Rotary Club Tom McIntosh Award - for the S4 student who has shown commitment and determination to succeed and is now moving on to a positive destination. Congratulations to Paige and our best wishes for her ongoing apprentice journey.
