Mears apprentice recognised with prestigious borough award

A Mears Group Apprentice has been recognised as Rotherham Apprentice of the Year.
A Mears Group Apprentice has been recognised as Rotherham Apprentice of the Year.

On the back of already achieving a distinction in his apprenticeship course, Lucas Clarke, Multi Trade Apprentice, was announced as the winner in the intermediate category for Level 2 apprentices at the recent award ceremony at the town’s New York Stadium.

Now in their ninth year, the South Yorkshire Apprentice of the Year Awards are jointly run by the local council and press to celebrate excellence in apprenticeship programmes across the area. All nominees must live or work within the borough of Rotherham but can be from any industry and of any age.

Lucas was nominated alongside another Mears Rotherham apprentice, Jace Lynn, with contributions from both the branch mentors and his online training provider, Ixion.

His apprenticeship began with Mears in September 2022 as a multi-trade apprentice, but the experience was different as his college course was delivered virtually. Lucas approached the challenge head on and maintained his assignments and portfolio throughout his time.

Nikki Baggaley, Project Coordinator, said:

Lucas has always shown himself to be fully committed to his apprenticeship and promoting this career pathway to school students at every opportunity. We are thrilled that he has received the recognition he deserves from the judges of this prestigious award.

Lucas has now been offered a permanent contract with the Rotherham team and is looking forward to further developing his skills.
