This year’s successful candidates are set to join Mears Group’s teams across the UK, with the company now taking applications for a diverse range of trades apprenticeships, including electrical, gas and carpentry, as well as business administration, customer service, health and safety and IT.
This year’s new apprentices will benefit from partnerships with a network of specialist training providers, alongside the support of experienced mentors handpicked from the business’ existing workforce.
Jo Fry, Mears Group’s HR Director, said:
Apprenticeships are an invaluable tool for attracting the UK’s best talent, enabling Mears Group to develop a diverse, sustainable, and skilled workforce of the future. Our apprentices have access to industry-leading training and mentors who are experts in their field, who in turn benefit from a refreshed perspective, inspiring the next generation and boosting their own personal development.
Mears currently has more than 300 apprentices in post including 129 new apprentices who joined last year. One of these was Charlie Dyer, who is an Engagement Community Officer Apprentice based in Glasgow.
Charlie said:
I’m younger than some of my colleagues, which means I bring a new perspective on things and can communicate with different generations. My advice for anyone starting and apprenticeship would be to jump right in, don’t hold back and ask lots of questions.
Contract Manager, Alfie Luscombe, joined Mears in 2016 as a multi-trade apprentice and has progressed through the business to now lead a team of close to 50 people in the London Borough of Havering, including five apprentices of his own.
Alfie commented:
Mears is very proactive with its apprenticeship programmes and they’re a fantastic way for people to learn and progress within the company. It’s great that I can now support people who were exactly where I was! I hope I am a role model.
