Set to close, volunteers from Mears Group's Leeds branch stepped in to ensure the club’s survival, dedicating an entire week to revitalising the community hub.
Improvements focused on enhancing the club’s facilities, promoting its benefits for local youth, and cementing its role as a space for education, training, and team-building—particularly for children from minority backgrounds.
The refurbishment included new vinyl flooring, donated by CT Flooring, and other essential updates that have turned the Boxing Club into a modern, welcoming space for the community.
Ric Bennett Trinity boxing club said:
“Wakefield Trinity Boxing Club C.I.C, a vital part of the Wakefield community, faced a significant challenge earlier this year when we had to leave our previous premises and move into a new building that required extensive work to make it fit for our members. However, thanks to the incredible generosity and hard work of Mears Group in Leeds, we’re now ready to continue serving our members and the community in a transformed space.”
Following its reopening, the Boxing Club now stands ready to inspire and support the next generation of young athletes.
Dave Leonard, General Manager at Mears Group commented:
It has been a pleasure to support the revamp of the Trinity boxing club. This project is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and generosity of everyone involved. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on Wakefield’s young people and we hope the club continues to thrive and serve as a safe and supportive environment for years to come.
